Golf Podcasts
Podcasts are great for a daily commute, a flight, a sick workout session, or even shoveling copious amounts of snow in the offseason. There are plenty of golf podcasts out there and I have listened to my fair share. I’ve narrowed it down to my six favorites, each with it’s own voice (literally) and unique perspective on the game.
Locking down guests like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas has made this podcast a must listen in 2017. NLU does not apologize for being a fan of the game. Soly and the rest of the NLU crew grew up Tiger and appreciate a good club twirl. With a quick wit and an unapologetic outlook, Soly delivers authentic conversations that get the best out the guest.
Note: If you enjoy No Laying Up, take the time to check out The Trap Draw, another podcast in the NLU family.
Favorite Episode: 54 - Ryder Cup recap with Brendan Porath, Kevin Van Valkenburg, and Kyle Porter.
Wishlist guest: Anthony Kim
Shane Bacon has 18th tower skills behind the mic. He appreciates the difficulty of the game and celebrates the challenges it presents. His enthusiasm comes through loud and clear as does his understanding that golf, like every other form of entertainment, must evolve. With a diverse spectrum of guests ranging from New York Times columnist Karen Crouse to the superhuman Gary Player, Shane touches on all aspects of the game. Shane deserves a Phil hat tip and a smile for always including the LPGA and representing the women's game well.
Favorite Episode: 14 - w/ Paul Azinger.
Wishlist Guest: Akbar Chisti, Mr. Seamus Golf himself
A podcast for the traveler by the traveler. Tune in if you want in-depth hotel shower ratings and food recommendations for some of the best golf resorts in the world. Mitch and Darin sip scotch while reminiscing about past travels and interview course developers and fellow travelers to discuss what makes for the best golf getaway experience.
Favorite Episodes: 11&12 - Mike Keizer Jr. discussing Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley
Wishlist Guest: PJ Koenig, golf photographer extraordinaire.
A podcast for armchair architects and anyone who appreciates terra firma as well as amateur and collegiate golf. The Egg speaks with a reverence for the game and clearly has a high golf IQ. You may need to brush up on your course design knowledge before you dive in but it is worth your while. The Fried Egg’s window into the world of am and college golf is eye opening. It makes you appreciate the quality golf that is being played at every level.
Favorite Episode: 4 - Rob Collins
Wishlist Guest: Sugarloaf Social Club, true stewards of the game.
With the backing of Sports Illustrated, this podcast is capable of pulling big guests. The interviews go well beyond the game and do a great job of humanizing larger than life characters. I may never watch Phil Mickelson the same again, constantly wondering if and when the Bones veto will take place. From course reviews to PGA players, Sean Zak and Alan Shipnuck touch on all aspects of the game.
Favorite Episode: January 24, 2017 - Phil Mickelson
Wishlist Guest: Johnny Miller
Admittingly, I am just getting into this podcast and include it in this list because they let that one guy from Alaska call in and ask a question. They even mentioned how nice he sounded. Flattery will get you everywhere Golf Digest. With the likes of Alex Meyers, Sam Weinman, and Ashley Mayo, this podcast has the firepower to be a must listen for all golfers.
Favorite Episode: 71 - Bubba…but mostly for the listener call-ins (hey, that’s me!)
Wishlist Guests: Chris Carnahan & Matt Lemman of Jones Sports Co.
Happy listening and as always Enjoy Golf
